What is Hive?

What is the Hive mission?

Hive’s mission is to create an active community of leaders and entrepreneurs working together on creating a better world in each major global city.


Why was Hive created?

The Hive community was founded in 2014 in order to deepen authentic community among leaders in the business, government, scientific, philanthropic, and non-profit sectors who were deeply passionate about creating a better world and communities and wanted to support each other throughout the journey.


Who comes to the Hive Global Leaders Program?

Every few months, Hive hosts extraordinary global leaders for a transformative 3-day event called Hive Global Leaders Program. So far, we’ve convened nearly 1600 entrepreneurs, leaders, and innovators from over 110 countries around the globe and have received over 27,000 applications from 175 countries. We are specifically looking for leaders who are committed to making a big impact in the world..

Over 50% of attendees are from outside the United States by design and over half are CEOs, Co-founders, Managing Directors, Executive Directors or Presidents of their organizations. By intentional design, 50% of Hive attendees are female and 50% are male. Regardless of their backgrounds, what each attendee has in common is a shared passion for creating a better world.

At each Hive there are innovators and leaders from many fields including science, technology, engineering, journalism, activism, design, education, public service, philanthropy, finance, business, entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship.  We strive for our programs to be as diverse as possible across gender, race, and geography.

Is there an age minimum or maximum? What is the average age?

We are bringing together extraordinary leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators from around the world. In past programs the average age has been around 34 however, participants so far have ranged from 21-80. We welcome mission-driven leaders ages 21 and above to apply.

 

What happens at Hive?

Hive enables high-impact leaders like you to discover and clarify your purpose through three-day workshops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Boston we call the Hive Global Leaders Program. We bring together 100 to 150 leaders from 30+ countries for each program. Just being in such a diverse room of thought creates some extraordinary opportunities for connection.

Once you have clarity on your purpose (your personal mission for the next phase of your life), we help you create a detailed execution plan to achieve your purpose and your goals.

What we specialize in is helping leaders and innovators discover their purpose and then join or build teams to create solutions to humanity’s most pressing challenges in fields like renewable energy, global education, basic needs access, mindfulness and wellness, water, the environment, peace and conflict resolution, refugee settlement, leadership coaching, technology, engineering, design, healthcare, biotechnology, finance, government 2.0, AI, robotics and many more. How many people attend each Hive Global Leaders Program?

Hive grew from 32 attendees in January 2014 to 157 attendees in April 2016. Most programs now have between 100 and 150 attendees to ensure intimacy and close connection.

 

What is the tuition price to attend Hive? 

The tuition price to attend Hive is $1250 (with early bird prices as low as $850), which allows us to break even on event and staff costs. We do not make a profit on the events as we have subsidized them to invest in the long-term community and in scholarships. 

 

What is included in the tuition price?

Tuition includes the entire three-day Hive Global Leaders Program (speakers, lectures, discussions, and participatory content). Tuition does not include accommodations, meals, or transportation costs, including airfare. 

 

Will my employer pay for or reimburse me for the tuition?

As Hive is a leadership training program, you may wish to check with your employer to determine if they will pay for directly or reimburse you for development and training programs from their HR training budget. We’ve had many applicants receive approval for their company to pay for the leadership training.

 

Can I crowdfund my tuition?

Yes, a number of past Hive attendees have successfully crowdfunded their Hive tuition using tools like Indiegogo and GoFundMe. You can download the Hive Crowdfunding Guide here.

 

Where should I book lodging?

We will provide lodging information (and all logistical details) to all attendees approximately two months prior to each event. You can view the logistics page here for more details. 

 

What is your refund policy?

Hive allows transfers from one scheduled event to another event of the same program content (i.e. a global leaders program can be swapped with another global leaders program) provided that the attendee provide Hive Global with 14 days notice and that event has availability. We do not currently allow for refunds for any registrations as we invest those funds in advance to produce and execute each event. 

If inclement weather prevents an attendee from attending an event do to travel disruption, an attendee may work with Hive Global to transfer their registration to another event. However, Hive is not responsible for any associated costs (hotel, etc.) that the registrant may have incurred as a result of their registration with a program.
